Geocache Description:

Party at the Moon Tower #6
East 11th Street and Trinity

Once a popular form of lighting in the US and Europe, Austin is now home to the only remaining moonlight towers in the world. Between 1894 and 1895 there were 31 moon towers erected in Austin. The original carbon arc lamps used illuminated a circle approximately 3,000 feet in diameter with a blue-white light (The towers now use 6,400-watt mercury vapor bulbs). Sadly, just 15 moon towers remain today. They are now designated as official state archeological landmarks and are listed in the National Register of Historic Places.

This moon tower is tucked away amongst various buildings in downtown Austin and just south of Waterloo Park. It is adjacent to the Teacher Retirement System of Texas building.

Please use care when removing container. Please also replace properly so the next person doesn't have a hard time getting it. Bring your own pen. Watch out for mugglers at the bus stop.
