Geocache Description:

The Cache of the Pirates of Sa Tuna (Begur).

Costa Brava, Empordà, Catalunya, Spain.

The cache is situated next the monument, near the Mirador of St. Josef (viewpoint on the Wild Coast – Costa Bava), on the international trail track GR-42 Emporda, Spain.
This part of the GR-42 Track is also called the “Cami de Ronda” (between Sa Tuna and the Cape of Begur).

In the middle-ages it was an escaping route for fishermen, sailors, coral gatherers and pirates, after shipwrecking.

It shows a splendid panoramic view of the wildest and most virgin coast in Catalunya.
However the bushes near the waypoint burned down in the spring of 2009, it still gives a most attractive view on the cove of Sa Tuna, the Islands of Medes and the bay of Roses. A hot point for experts in trail expeditions.
There are two variations for the trip.

Route #1 (coming from the north)
The shortest way, but with very rough climbing at the end – not for motorcar, bicycles, nor mountainbikes.
Walking shoes, sun protection in summertime.
Not for children under 6 years. Older kids under supervision.
There are dangerous cliffs on the road. Please do not leave the trail path.
Duration time for adults: about 15 minutes one way.

Parking Ajuntament de Begur “Sa Tuna”: for motorcars
(paying in the summer 2010: 2 euro/day).
N 41°57.626’
E 003°13.644’
400 meters back on the road, there is a free parking zone (in summertime always very busy).

Departure point is “The Anker of Sa Tuna”:
N 41°57.625’
E 003°13.762’
Sea level.

After founding the cache:
You can return the same way (10 minutes) or
you can walk further on the GR-42 trail to the house settlement of La Gaviota.
There are dangerous cliffs on the road. Please do not leave the trail path; hold the children by hand near the cliffs. There are no protection walls.
In La Gaviota (see departure point route #2) you have to leave the GR-track and follow the road upstairs direction La Borna. Then you go down to the departure point in Sa Tuna.
Duration 50 minutes.

Route #2 (coming from the south)
The longest way, but easier, with some climbing and downhill – not for motorcars, bicycles, nor mountainbikes.
