The pointed firs are actually black spruce, but who am I to quibble
with an author whose novella has stayed in print for over a
century?
Sarah Orne Jewett's title refers to the great spruce-fir, or
boreal, forests of her native Maine.
These forests range in a wide belt across the high latitudes of
North America, Europe, and Asia. They edge into Vermont only in the
Northeast Kingdom as they do here at this easy cache site.
Congratulations to ekdk for being FTF.
