This cache is located just outside the boundary of Arches National Park. You do not need to enter the park to find this cache. This cache is located in an area called Winter Camp Ridge that is just north of Arches, sees few visitors, and offers outstanding scenic views. That's why it is one of my favorite places to explore, and hopefully you will enjoy it, too!

The road to this cache will require a high-clearance vehicle with 4-wheel drive. It is not a very difficult road, but you will definitely encounter a few sections of deep soft sand along the way as well as a few rocky sections. This road does not see too much traffic so there may not be any recent tracks and sometime the sand can blow into small dunes on the road.

Once at the end of the Winter Camp Ridge Road, you will be treated to a great overlook into Arches National Park over a deep sandstone bowl that drains into Salt Wash. If you look south and a little east from this cache, you can also see the top of the famous Delicate Arch from here; without the crowds. You can also see Skyline Arch on the horizon, plus some great views towards the La Sal Mountains.

When you have found the cache, I would recommend you take a short hike along the rim of the deep canyon/bowl that you are near. The scenery is outstanding!

If you are looking for a nice back-county hike while you are in the area, I would highly recommend looking for Covert Arch which is on the rim of Lost Spring Canyon a few miles north of the road. The arch is located at: N 38°46'55.26" W 109°30'23.95" If you attempt the hike to this arch, please beware that there is a lot of cryptobiotic soil crusts in the area and you should avoid walking on it by sticking to hiking on the sandstone.
