Tampereen taistelu käytiin 16. maaliskuuta – 6. huhtikuuta 1918, kun valkoiset valloittivat Tampereen Suomen sisällissodassa. Valkoisia johti C. G. E. Mannerheim. Taisteluun osallistuneiden joukkojen määrillä mitattuna Tampereen taistelu oli Pohjoismaiden siihen astisen sotahistorian suurin. Messukylässä kirkon ympäristössä käytiin ankaria taisteluja. Punaiset olivat järjestäytyneet harjulle puolustukseen Anders Hildenin johdolla. Punaisiin joukkoihin Messukylässä kuului helsinkiläisiä ja paikallisia kaartilaisia Tampereelta ja muista lähikunnista.

The fight of Tampere took place between March 16 and April 6 in 1918 when the Whites took over Tampere in the Finnish civil war. The White army was headed by C.G.E Mannerheim (Marski). The fight of Tampere was the biggest fight in Nordic war history by that day when comparing the number of soldiers involved. In the very neighborhood of Messukylä church, some ruthless and bloody fights took place. The Reds had placed their defensive line on the ridge under the command of Anders Hilden. The Red army included soldiers from Helsinki, Tampere and nearby towns.
