Back to the Beginning - 10 years of Vic caching! Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

Happy Chappies: OK - time to archive... Thanks everyone once again for making this a fantastic and memorable event.

As for the few TBs still stuck here - not much more we can do about that. Be assured if you are a TB owner listed that there were no TBs remaining at the end of the event, so one of the attendees must have them tucked away somewhere.

Thanks again, until next time!

Eddie.

Geocache Description:

Come back to where it all started to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Victoria's oldest (and still active!) geocache. (12midday to 3pm)

On the 8th of October, 2000, geocacher 'George' placed the first geocache ever in Victoria, simply saying:

"The stash is located at Murchisen Gap. It has a difficulty level of 2 and a terrain rating of 1, this stash is accessible by car."

Since then, this cache has been found 159 times - But more importantly, was the beginning of our amazing game/sport/hobby in our beloved state, with now almost 5000 caches active in Victoria. So what a better way to celebrate than to return to where it all started for some simple celebrations!

The coordinates will take you to the Strath Creek picnic ground. Join us from midday for a simple picnic/bbq. It'll be a BYO affair, but as all anniversaries require cake, the Happy Chappies will provide that for all

Following a great time of food, friends (new and old) and festivities, people are welcome to make the pilgrimage back to Melbourne's 1st for the necessary photo and commemorations (We have approval from the cache guardian and landowner for this event).

This cache is a comfortable day trip from Melbourne, being only 1-2 hours drive (depending on where you're coming from). A public barbecue is available (but only one, so be prepared to share your sausage space!) and the council even kindly installed a brand new plaground for us! There is also a small milk bar nearby for last minute supplies if required. BYO: Food, drink, chairs/rugs, and sense of humour and gravitas for this momentous day

The rough agenda for the day will be:

12ish - Arrival,lunch, etc.

1.30ish - Arrival of cache owner (George) and cutting of the special 10th anniversary Geocaching cake!

2ish - Migration of the mob (in an orderly fashion of course!) up to Melbourne's 1st for commemoration of the event and group photos. The road is unsealed and narrow, so please drive slowly and cautiously, and park in a single file on the left-hand side (ie. cache side) of the road)

A travel bug/geocoin box as well as sticky labels for name tags will also be available, along with the obligatory log book. There will be a few prizes handed out, so make sure you sign the log and grab a nametag for yourself and each member of your team (Nametags = raffle tickets!!)
