Geocache Description:

Rathbon Pond.

So one rainy day I was sitting around the house thinking about getting out and streching my legs. I looked at my gps and decided that rain or not, I was going to go hiking. I found this pond on the map and thought to myself "Hmmmm... how do you get there?" So I drove to a parking spot down river from the pond and started following the trail by the river towards the pond. Soon the trail faded away and I was knee deep into a bushwacking adventure. In hindsight I should have just waded my way up river since my shoes ended up soaking wet anyways, but I continued on bushwacking my way through the ferns and prickers and fallen tree limbs following my gps towards the pond. I zig zagged my way following deer trails that dead ended me in prickers until I finally saw the pond. And when I got close I saw a dirt road ajacent to the pond. So I found a good place to hide my cache and headed back the way I came just as the rain picked up. I got 50' into the woods when I reached for my gps and discovered that I dropped it. Fortunately I found it after searching for a while in the pouring rain. Then I headed back into the woods to find my way back to my truck.

So now it's up to you how you would like to find the cache. You can park at the spot where I did and either bushwack your way or follow the river in, or you could find out where that dirt road comes from and try to come in from that direction. The difficulty and terrain ratings are based on the way I came to find the pond.

The cache is a medium small lock and lock container. There are some trade items for in there for your troubles. Unfourtunately I did not have a log book with me at the time and you will have to use the geocaching note for a log until I can get out there and leave one. (or you could leave one as a trade item)

If you do find alternate ways to the cache, please let me know for when I have to do maintenance.

Also, this cache is located in the Big River Management Area. Be sure to follow guidelines for wearing orange clothing during hunting season. More information can be found on the RIDEM's webpage.
