Kätkö sijaitsee vanhalla
saha-alueella, joka rakennettiin 60-luvulla jatkamaan joen
rannalla, n. 1 km:n päässä sijainneen vielä vanhemman sahan
toimintaa. Kätköpaikan ympäristössä on sijainnut höyläämö, kuivaamo
(ainoat jäljelläolevat rakennukset), sahan lautatarha, tukkien
lajittelulaitos sekä pakkaamo, "kaappaamo", n. 300 m itäänpäin.
Itse saha sijaitsi vastapäätä kätköpaikkaa tien
eteläpuolella.
The surroundins
of the cache belongs to an old saw mill, which was built up in
early 60's to continue the activities of the older saw mill by the
riverside 1 km to the west. In the neighbourhood of the cache there
has been a planer, drying buildings for sawn timber (the only
buildings left), a timber yard (logs and sawn timber) and the
packing plant for sawn timber 300 m to the east from the cache. The
saw mill itself was located on the southern side of the road
opposite to the cache.
Tämän sahan ja kosken rannalla
1 km:n päässä sijainneen vanhemman sahan historia on ollut
traaginen, 4 tulipaloa, jotka ovat tuhonneet vuorollaan lähes
kaiken. Ensin tämän uudemman sahan pakkaamo n. 300 m itään, sitten
itse uusi saha, jonka toiminta oli jo loppunut pakkaamon palon
vuoksi. Tämän jälkeen joen rannan vanhan sahan asumaton
toimistorakennus. Ja viimeiseksi tarkoituksellisesti poltettiin
valvotusti joen rannan vanha saharakennus huonon kunnon ja
vaarallisuuden takia. Rauniot joen rannalla ovat hyvin
nähtävissä.
Vanhan sahan alueelle menoa ei suositella, sillä rauniot ovat
edelleenkin vaarallisia. Myös alueen omistajien toivomus on, että

The history of
the saw mill at this spot and the olderr one by the riverside has
been tragic. 4 different fires have burned down nearly everything.
First the packing plant of sawn timber 300 m to the east was
destroyed by fire, then the new saw mill itself, which was already
closed due to the fire of the packing plant. After that the
unoccupied dwelling house of the old saw mill by the riverside
caught fire and was totally destroyed. Finally the old saw by the
riversided mill was burned down on purpose and under control
because buildings were already in a very bad shape and were
dangerous. The ruins of the old saw mill and the dwelling house can
be seen on the riverside 1 km to the west from this
cache.
Admittance to the
old sawmill area is not recommendable because the ruins can still
be dangerous and because of the wish the owners.
