Where is everyone going?
We’re going to look for Moon.
All the creatures of the night and some from the day made their
way down the forest trail to the big log.
Owl was there, and Frog, and Cricket.
Doe and Fawn were there also.
Raccoon and Possum were used to these trails, and knew where to
go.
Vulture and Chickadee had gotten up in the dark to join the
group.
Chipmunk and Squirrel could be heard munching on some acorns as
they made their way.
Even Person from the campground had followed the animals into the
woods.
But there was no Moon to be seen.
What had happened to it? Why couldn’t they see it
shining?
Person had brought a flashlight along to help find the way in the
night without Moon.
Look! There's a moon drop over there! Is that all that is left
of Moon?
There’s another moon drop!
Here’s a curved piece of Moon!
Where is the rest of Moon?
Let’s follow the fragments.
Here’s another moon drop.
I found one, too!
And here’s a bigger piece of moon.
I think we’re on the right trail.
Everyone made their way in the dark, finding more moon drops and
an even bigger piece of moon. But would they find all of Moon?
Would Moon be in one piece if they did find it? Person shined the
light towards the distance and saw something round and bright in
the trees. Moon usually was high in the sky, but what they saw
looked to be about knee-high to Person.
But it was Moon, full as ever.
Everyone came close and danced in the forest around Moon.
I haven’t left you.
I just came close tonight to bring you treasures for you to enjoy
when I am not around.
Look below me. See that box?
If you look inside, you will see what I mean.
They all looked at the treasures, and some took a treasure to
keep.
Others just enjoyed sitting in the moonlight, glad to see that Moon
was whole.
All made their mark in a book in the treasure box to show that they
had seen Moon.
Good-bye, Moon. Good-bye!
Person held the light high, and the group made its way back down
the trail to where they had entered. As they went, they followed
pieces of Moon that lighted their way back. There were the moon
drops again, but the fragments of the full moon kept getting
smaller until there were only two moon drops and then the road.
