Chevy by Edwin Henry Landseer

Edwin Henry Landseer was an English artist who was well known for his paintings of animals—particularly horses, dogs and stags—and best known for his lion sculptures in London’s Trafalgar Square. Landseer was a child prodigy, who studied under his father John Landseer, an engraver, and Benjamin Robert Haydon, the well-known and controversial history painter who encouraged young Landseer to perform dissections in order to fully understand animal musculature and skeletal structure. Chevy can be seen in the DIA’s collection of European Paintings.
