Detachment 7 (AKA Magnificent 7), watches over this cache. Det 7 is an Air Force detachment serving at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Det 7 works with other military services to train personnel in their future duties. (To find more about Det 7 see their web site at http://www.wood.army.mil/det7/index.htm)
An ammo box houses this cache, located somewhere on post. The original items include: Air Force key rings; toy air planes and gliders; Air Force Reserve coins, hat from an Air Force Museum; Air Force stress ball; Fort Leonard Wood mug; and others.
You can get within a mile of this cache on paved roads. After that, is a dirt road that can get you within nearly one tenth of a mile. You must carefully judge the dirt road as it may become impassable during wet weather. If you have a nice car I recommend walking the dirt road. Bring shoes that you don’t mind getting muddy, just in case. Because of this dirt road and hills I have rated the terrain two stars. Also, there are cliffs near, so don't try this one in the dark!
You can normally get a basic map at the visitors’ center at the front gate. You can also find these basic maps on the Ft. Wood web site ) The best maps are from the Outdoor Recreation Center (see basic map).
You will pass by some gated/restricted areas – you will not need to go into them at all. We recommend printing the clue to take with you even if you don’t use it. We hope you enjoy the nearby attraction, too. Air Power!!!
