Geocache Description:

On June 18, 1998, a Hawker Hunter fighter jet crashed landed in the large open area adjacent to this cache. This single engine 1950's era British aircraft was on it maiden test flight after having undergone a lengthy rebuild. No wreckage reamains. The pilot made a valiant effort to avoid buildings and houses, but in doing so may have caused his own demise when he ejected too low and did not survive. It was determined that the jet ran out of fuel, most likely faulty cockpit guages were to blame. Ironically the airframe was mostly intact after the impact and some have speculated that the pilot may have survived had he not ejected; this however would have been counter intuitive to any experienced pilots training. See link for a more detailed account: (visit link)

The hide itself is not a particularly clever one; instead I chose it mainly for its historical significance, and it brings people to an area that even locals may not know of.

It is about a six minute walk from the recommended parking coordinates. There is definitely more than one way in here. You could park on Gold street where the old rail bed crosses, and go in that way. You could also park at the Post Office on Goffe Falls road, cross the street to the car lot, and follow the rail bed that goes under the road, but I'm not sure if the P.O. would be OK with this (wink, wink). There is also a trail that follows the power lines into the "desert" beginning just a little further up the road from the P.O., but it's entrance from the road is marked with no parking signs. I know for a fact that the airport tower personnel can see this area, and will shoo people out if found anywhere in the field, or parked near by.

This is my first hide, and I hope you enjoy it.

This cache has been changed to a micro and moved about 462 feet away to the new cords listed. The original ammo box was stolen.

Congratulations RAMMAN on the FTF!
