[ENG] Bring your own pencil! The cache itself is not in the
structures of the dam, the canal or the engine house, so keep clear of
them, for your own safety.
[FIN] Kauniiden vaaramaisemien ympäröimää Pintamojärveä käytetään
säännöstelyaltaana. Järven länsipäässä on patoluukku ja kanava (kuva 1), joka
johtaa parin kilometrin päässä olevalle putkivoimalaitokselle (kuva 2). Tätä
paremminkin alppimaissa ja Norjassa esiintyvää vesivoimalaitostyyppiä
edustava pienvoimala rakennettiin Pintamaisojan Taivalkoskeen aikanaan
tyydyttämään maaseudun sähköistyksen tarvetta sotaa seuranneena
jälleenrakennuskautena. Putouskorkeus on 24 metriä.
Kätkön sijaintipaikka on vanhalla, lähes umpeen kasvaneella Kuusamontiellä, joka tällä kohtaa on osa UKK -reittiä. Liikenteen melu nykyiseltä tieltä kuuluu padolle.

Pintamojärvi Lake, surrounded by beautifully hilled landscape, is used
as a regulating reservoir. There is a tiny dam (picture 1) at the western end of
the lake. It is the starting point of a canal leading to a small power
station a couple of kilometres away. It was built to satisfy the need
of electricity in the post-war era. The fall height being 24 meters,
water streams into to the turbines through pipes (picture 2), a technology applied
mostly in alpine countries or Norway.
The location of the cache is on the old, almost overgrown road to Kuusamo, which is a part of the UKK trail from the south to the far north of the country. You can hear the traffic roaring past on the new highway.
