Beacon Vir / Pomorsky svjetionik Vir / Majak Vir Traditional Geocache

[EN] This cache will take you to one of the most exciting and romantic places of the Vir Island. I recommend visiting it in the evening and wait for the sunset.

[HR] Cache ce vas odvesti na jedno od najljepsih i najromanticnijih mjesta na otoku Viru. Dopurucuji ga posjetiti veceras i cekaju zalazak sunca.

[CS] Tato cache vás zavede na jedno z nejhezcích a nejromantictejsích míst ostrova Vir. Dopurucuji ho navstívit vecer a vyckat na západ slunce.

ACCESS to the cache (edit: 31.8.2013)

2013: Beacon is now fully changed to five stars accomodation (especially to Czech people according to my information). The foot access is now possible from North reference point (2 km walking from the North along the coast with sharp rocks!). Next possibility is to swimm/snorkel there from the reference point.

2012: The situation with the beacon was changed since 2011. The former access along the coast is now marked as beacon's private area but the cache is still quite easily foot-accessible through the wood behind the beacon's walls!!! The romantic atmosphere unfortunately disappeared.

Naval lighthouse Vir was built in 1881 at the southwest coast of the Vir Island. It is a typical example of one of the big lighthouses that were built in 19th century at the east coast of the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the fifty lighthouses that were built during this period. Until recently the crew lived in it. It was a guard who lived there with his family. His everyday task was to keep it working without any errors.

During the world war two this lighthouse was a base of anti-Nazi troops that kept the connection between guerrilla on the continent and the Molat Island. In 1944 the lighthouse was corrupted by German intruders. After the world war two the lighthouse was reconstructed and in 1950 it started to work again.

Thanks to the automation today there is no stable crew so it works as a naval beacon. Its tower is 21 meters high and the light is visible for the distance of 11 naval miles.

Pomorski svjetionik Vir je izgraden 1881. godine na jugozapadnoj obali otoka Vira. Ovaj je svjetionik tipican primjer velikih svjetionika koji su se u 19. st. gradili na istocnoj jadranskoj obali i jedan je od 50-tak slicnih svjetionika koji su izgradeni u tom razdoblju. Sve do novijeg doba i automatizacije rada svjetionika on je imao posadu, odnosno, svjetionicari su s obiteljima zivjeli na njemu i obavljali svoje svakodnevne poslove kako bi svjetionik besprijekorno funkcionirao.

Danas na njemu nema posade, a njegov rad je automatiziran. Visina kule svjetionika iznosi 21 metar, a domet svijetla 11 nautickih milja.

Námorní maják Vir byl postaven v roce 1881 na jihozápadním pobrezí ostrova Vir. Jedná se o typický príklad jednoho z velkých majáku, které se stavely v 19 století na východním pobrezí Jaderského more a je jedním z 50-ti majáky, které byly behem tohoto období postaveny. Az do nedávna zde byla prítomna posádka. Jednalo seo strázce majáku, který tu zil se svou rodinou. Jeho kazdodením úkolem bylo udrzovat maják v bezchybném chodu.

Behem druhé svetové války byl tento maják základnou antifasistických bojovníku, kterí udrzovali spojení mezi partyzánskými jednotkami na pevnine a ostrovem Molat. Maják byl ponicen nemeckymi okupanty v roce 1944. Po válce byl maják zrekonstruován a v roce 1950 znovu uveden do provozu.

Dnes zde jiz není díky automatizaci zádná stabilní posádka. Výska veze majáku je 21 metru a jeho svetlo je viditelne na 11 námorních mil.
