Better Off Red is located in the Mowry Conservation Area in Smithfield, RI. It is about 100' off one of the main hiking trails.
The Mowry Conservation Area in Smithfield, RI is a hidden gem of nature. The yellow blazed and red blazed nature trails combine for just over two miles of walking on the site that once held an 18th century forge. Remains of the forge may still be found along the banks of the river, and if you look closely enough you will find traces of the coke used to fire the forge. Rock overhands and a small footbridge crossing the river add to the scenery.
“Better off Red” is my first cache. It is a small 4-snap closure plastic container clearly marked “Official Geocache”. The container itself has been darkened to improve its ability to remain hidden. Please be sure to carefully return the cache to its original location. Be careful not to place the cache such that it will slide out of reach. Report any problems to me and they will be quickly resolved. Cache will be reviewed and maintained no less than quarterly if no maintenance reports are submitted.
Coordinates were obtained over a 5-minute average using a Garmin GPSmap 60CSx. Accuracy at the time was listed as +-12'.
Original Contents: Geocaching Pin, Geocaching Compass, Kannafoot Wooden Nickel, Green Neon squishy ball, Marbles, Hot Wheels car, log book w/ 2 pencils and pencil sharpener. Released “Not a Gnome” Travel Bug into this cache as well.
