107 years history

In JULY 1892, local agents and general fans of Limassol, founded the gymnastics club "Olympia" and in 1898 they built a gym, named "Stadium GSO. The GSO is the premier gymnastic club in Cyprus and second after the 'National' gymnastics club in the wider Greek area. The official start of the operation began with the performance of C Pancyprian Games Athletics in 1899. The gym was then track around the perimeter of 300 meters and a capacity of 700spectators.

In 1902 horse races were held.
In 1904 organized the first flower festival.
In 1908 the first tennis matches.
In 1910 new seats were constructed for 1000 spectators.
In 1925 they organized the first Pan-Hellenic athletic games and in 1929 the first island-wide school events.

Sports jewel for the city of Limassol.

The revival of the historic stage of the city is now a fact and the GSO in its new form, is a real jewel of sports for the city of Limassol, and a range of sports history being transformed into open air sports for all citizens.

The new GSO which is now called "Fytideio Sports Center" includes a cluster of sports facilities open for use by all citizens, without exception. Main objectives of the design, made by the architectural firm Margarita Dane, was to achieve a high degree of communication, consistency, and continuity of the sports park to: -the main coastal road, -the public cycling road, -the seafront promenade, -the sea, -the public garden -and the wider urban canvas.

The cost amounted to 3.5 million which was the original estimated cost approved by the Cyprus Sports Organization.
