Geocache Description:

This cache will take you to a charming little church tucked away in an agricultural area on the Akrotiri peninsular Saint Dimitrianos was born in Nicosia in the early 9th century, and his fasting and praying was reputedly rewarded with the power to heal the sick. When Saracens sacked the area during his 80th year, taking prisoners from the island to act as slaves, he opted to journey with the prisoners to ensure their well-being. His praying and goodness bent the heart of the Arab administrators who allowed their prisoners to return to Cyprus The church is of the mid-Byzantine period and was built with stone from the surrounding area. It eventually fell into disrepair, but in 1998 the Department of Archaeology gave support and some funding for its restoration. There are some fascinating pictures within the church grounds of the project. Surrounded by orchards, this is a very peaceful, but somewhat busy spot; the cache, by necessity, has to be a micro but we have made it an easy find so that you can savour the surroundings without having to spend too long hunting for the impossible.
