Geocache Description:

Parking area can be reached by following Morgan Road or Prospect Street. Could be a park and grab.

Cache is a pill bottle.

As you park at the intersection of Old Holyoke Rd, Prospect Ave, Morgan Rd and Millville Street, walk west down Old Holyoke Rd to the cache.

Between 1636 and 1663 you would be heading for Bush's Notch. You can drive to the notch area by taking Old Holoke Road off East Mountain Road in Westfield and park near the gate. This is where the Mand M trail crosses and there are caches nearby. Except for the Westfield River, this was the only way west from West Springfield to Westfield. Back then Route 20 did not exist. In 1636 the East Mountain range ran right down to the river.

Up to 1990’s you could drive on all these roads. This area is part of the Bear Hole Watershed and is available for passive recreation only, walking, biking, snowshoeing and cross country skiing, , NOTHING WITH A MOTOR!!! The town hopes the more people using the area will cut down on the illegal dumping going on. If you see any illegal things going on they would like you to get a plate number and report it.

As late as 1912 there were 2 farmhouses at the “4-corners” intersection and all the land in the vicinity was orchard, pasture or farmland. Old cellar holes and stonewalls can still be found in the area but so does poison ivy, so beware.
