The Caves "Coves Meravelles", located near Benifallet in the Sierra de Cardó, consist of six caves, two of them are open to the public, the "Cueva del Dos" and "Cueva Meravelles". In these caves you can see lots of stalactites, stalagmites, columns, cast, gours, flags, macaroni and eccentrics.

They have been formed as a result of mineral deposits carried by rain water seeping steadily into the cave. When the drop falls, it leaves behind a thin trail of calcite. A STALACTITE hangs from the ceiling or wall. A STALAGMITE grows from the same drop of water falling from the tip of a stalactite on the floor. If enough time passes, the stalactite and stalagmite join, become a COLUMN. Groundwater flows, where flow inside a cave falls on the walls or ceiling, called
CAST. As the water flow is laminar, for example a thin film of water sliding down the wall, it is possible that in the bottom appear GOURS. FLAG is a wavy usually suspended from the ceiling like a stalactite but is extended to the walls and it is thin and broad. A MACARONI is the beginning of the stalactite, a thin tube and very fragile. ECCENTRICS are special stalactites, they grow in any direction.

Opening hours: 10-13:30 and 16-18:30 (Summer 19:30). The adult ticket costs 7 Euro.

 QUESTIONS:

For logging this earthcache as FOUND you have to answer the following questions:

1. In the second room of the Cueva Meravelles is the only "figure" with a name. What is the name? Which formation is it? What do you think, how many cm in height has this "figure"?

2. The third room is called "Music Hall". Why?

3. Photo with GPS at the coordinates.

Las Coves Meravelles, situadas cerca de Benifallet en la Sierra de Cardó, forman un conjunto espeleológico de seis cuevas. Dos están abiertas al público, la Cueva del Dos y la Cueva Meravelles. En estas cuevas se puede ver una gran cantidad de estalactitas, estalagmitas, columnas, coladas, gours, banderas, macarrones y excéntricas.

Se forman como resultado de los depósitos minerales transportados por el agua de lluvia que se filtra continuamente en la cueva. Cuando la gota cae, deja detrás de ella un fino reguero de calcita. Una ESTALACTITA cuelga del techo o de la pared. Una ESTALAGMITA crece de la misma gota de agua que cae de la punta de una estalactita en el suelo. Si pasa el tiempo suficiente, al unirse estalactita y estalagmita, se convierten en una COLUMNA. Las corrientes de agua subterránea, cuando desembocan en el interior de una cueva precipitan sobre las paredes o el techo, se llaman COLADAS. Como el flujo de agua es laminar, es decir, que una lámina delgada de agua resbala por la pared, es posible que, en la parte baja, aparezcan GOURS. Una BANDERA es una forma habitualmente ondulada, suspendida del techo como una estalactita pero que se alarga hacia las paredes y que tiene poco espesor. Un MACARRÓN es el principio de la estalactita, un tubo fino y muy frágil. EXCÉNTRICAS son estalactitas especiales, crecen en cualquier dirección.

1. En la segunda sala de la Cueva Meravelles se encuentra la única "figura" con nombre. Cual es el nombre? De que formación se trata? Cuantos cm de altura tiene esta "figura"?

2. La tercera sala se llama "Sala de la música". Porque?

3. Foto en las coordenadas con el GPS (opcional)
