Toothwort is a scarce plant which grows in deciduous woodland.
It is parasitic and has no chlorophyll as it does not need to
photosynthesise. There is some Toothwort growing in the wood near
the cache site - I discovered it there last year. It flowers in
March and April, so keep an eye open for it!
Any plant with a name ending in 'wort' was used in healing and
the name often suggests which part of the body it was used on or
for. You can imagine that Toothwort would have been used for cases
of toothache. The plants in the following pictures are all 'worts'
and are all common British flowers.
