Geocache Description:

The Chatham Naval Air Station, was an operational United States Navy airfield from 1917 to 1922. It was first established as a blimp base during World War I.

Find out a bit more about it before taking a great walk along the shore of Pleasant Bay. The cache is affected by the tide so make sure to plan your hunt around the low tide. It is about a one and half mile round trip.

This is a 3 stage multi-cache, solve the puzzle at the beginning, to get the coordinates to the first stage. The next stage will get you to a small lock and lock that has a few goodies for trading. There is a gift certificate to my favorite hand dipped chocolate shop on Main Street, Chatham for the FTF.

This is a great walk along the shore of Pleasant Bay. There is extensive erosion along this shore and there are a lot of cliffs. You don't have to climb any of the cliffs to find the stages. The tides affect the access to the shore to get to the caches so it is a relatively easy walk for about 2-3 hours either side of low tide, but really hard at high tide, so be sure to check what the tide is doing. Use the charts for "Pleasant Bay Cape Cod". You can get to it by kayak or boat if that is an option for you. There is a higher terrain difficulty because of the tides, at lower water it is an easy walk.

Watch for a huge variety of birds. The types of birds will change seasonally as they migrate north and south. Keep your eyes open for soaring Red Tail Hawks as they fly along the cliffs.

This is a three stage multi-cache.
At stage one you will need the following, you need to check the information on site as there are discrepancies if you research it online:
A) The 3rd digit of the year when the base was returned to non-operational duty.
B) The last digit of the year in which the base was closed multiplied by the digit of the history making airplane.
C) The 2nd digit in the day the airplane reached the Azores.

D) How many crew were flying the airplane.
E) The month when the air station was established.
F) The 3rd digit of the year when this was erected by the Chatham Historical Society.

The stage two coordinates are :
N 41° 43.ABC
W 069° 58.DEF
