According to the Millis Historical Society, Popple Squash Marsh, was the name early settlers gave to the surrounding wetlands of the cache site. Here you will find a number of features distinct to this micro-geographic-climate known as the Upper Charles River Valley.
Island Road was once a continuous thru-way but is now separated into two separate sections with barricades blocking the middle ground within the Charles River flood plain where an old drainage canal flows. The red and white Army Corps of Engineers blazes and orange markers are visible (simply delineating their area of command, the public are welcome, use caution during seasonal flooding).
There are 3 unique ways to access Island Road:
Exchange Street/Rt. 115
Environmental Drive
Dover Road
Please park mindfully, observe hunting season and CITO if feasible. *This can act as a jumping off point to GC2RJBF ~ Good Luck!
