All the obstacles in the way of purchasing the Bliss road up Grandfather bluff have been finally disposed of, and yesterday the purchase was practically completed. This road lies wholly in Campbell, but only two families living in that town use it regularly, while a number of Shelby farmers have no other road to the city. Nevertheless Campbell has the alternative of accepting the road and keeping it in repair, or continuing the hopeless task of trying to make a decent highway of the rocky gully down Ebner’s Coolie.
When the board of supervisors last met, the only obstacle to concluding the bargain was the width of right-of-way; this seems to have been arranged and the road is now public property. It is an easy grade, the scenery is charming, and if that side of Grandfather bluff can be preserved with every tree, alive or dead, every vine and fern and wild flower, La Crosse will never lack for a park. It is to be hoped the present owners will not part with an acre as long as there is any chance of the city finally coming into possession of the whole property.
Stay on the trail till within a few hundred feet of cache. Make sure you have hiking boots or good shoes on, the terrain is very steep, rocky, and there could be muddy conditions. Bring a lunch and enjoy the views after your find.
