Good Night Calavera Multi-cache

This cache has been archived.

Geodynamic: Walked the route today and there are multiple trail heads along the route that are now fenced off. I'm bummed that this cache had such a short run.

Geocache Description:

THIS IS A NIGHT CACHE. NOT RECOMMENDED FOR YOUNG CHILDREN.

The cache is not at the above coordinates, but this is where you will start. You will need a good flashlight or two, good walking shoes and at least an hour to one and a half hours of your time. A headlamp works great or hold your flashlight at eye level in order to optimize the reflectivity of the trail markers.

From the above starting coordinates look to the ocean and you will see the exhaust stack of the Encina power plant. Look to your left and aim your flashlight down the trail and you should see your first set of markers. The markers tell you which direction you need to go. There are a lot of trail intersections in Calavera and this is where a majority of the markers are located. At the trail intersections, you will need to look up, down and all around to determine you direction. I have tried to place multiple markers at intersections in order to offset any future missing or obscured markers. During the long sections of trail between intersections, you may or may not come across a trail marker. If you think you are off course, you may have missed the markers at an intersection and may need to backtrack.

After taking a pretty lengthy night tour of Calavera, you will come to a part of the trail that should clue you in that you are near GZ. Continue following the markers and your flashlight and geosense should take you right to the cache.

The difficulty rating is based mainly on the length of the walk necessary to get to the cache. The terrain rating is based on walking in the dark on terrain that is typically a 2 or 2.5 and the conditions at GZ. Have fun and please be safe.

Any future cache maintenance issues please send me an email with the coordinates at which you had problems. Please don't include any coordinate information in your logs.
