Orren ensimmäinen kätkö esittelee Santalahden rappeutuneen teollisuusalueen. Jo teininä Santalahden tikkutehtaan pihan hylätyt kuorma-autot vetivät Orrea puoleensa kuin hunaja kärpäsiä. Nykyään autot ovat viety ja suurin osa teollisuusalueesta on suloisen rappion tilassa suojeltuinakin rakennuksina.

Alueen halki kulki myös Tampereen vanha länsiraja aina vuoteen 1937 saakka, jolloin Pohjois-Pirkkalaan kuulunut Pispala liitettiin Tampereen kaupunkiin.

1990-luvulla it-huumassa alueesta oli tarkoituksena tehdä Mansen Piilaakso, mutta sijoittajien kiinnostui haihtui suuren laman sotkiessa kuviot. Nykyään aluetta on jo pitempään kaavailtu asuinalueeksi. Tarkoituksena on kuitenkin jättää sijoilleen ainakin OTK:n Tulitikkutehtaan ja sen ruutivaraston lisäksi entinen Näsijärvi Oy:n Pahvitehdas, Enqvistin paperitehdas piippuineen sekä Enqvistin ja Breitensteinin huvilat.

Kaavoitussotkut ovat kuitenkin jättäneet Santalahden rappiolle ja alue onkin varsin kiehtova pysähtyneisyydessään. Nykyajan teinitkin ovat löytäneet alueen, josta voi löytää vallattuja taloja hirtettyine nukkeineen ja hienoja graffittiseinineen, kuten esimerkiksi radan varressa sijaitsevan entisen kattohuopatehtaan. Kulttuurihistoriallisestikin vähemmän arvokkaat pienteollisuusalueet ovat varsin hienoja, joten parasta kiiruhtaa ennen kuin grynderit saapuvat siloittamaan tämän Tampereen rauniokylän.

The first cache of Orre presents the decaying industrial area of Santalahti (tr. gulf of sand). Already as teenager the abandoned trucks in the yard of the match factory attracted Orre as honey flies. Nowadays the trucks have disappeared and most of the industrial area is covered with sweet decadence even as protected buildings.

Through the area went the western border of Tampere until year 1937, when the area of Pispala belonging to Northern Pirkkala was joined to the city of Tampere.

With the great IT-bubble of 1990’s the area was supposed to become the Silicon Valley of Tampere, but the interest of investors evaporated as the great depression begun. Nowadays the area has been tried for some while to zone as residential area. The buildings of the old match factory, Näsijärvi Ltd cartboard factory, paper factory of Enqvist with its pipe and the villas of Enqvist and Breitensteim are supposed to remain and be restored.

Zoning mess, however, has left the Santalahti decay and it is quite a fascinating area in the state of stagnation. Modern teens have found an area and you can find squatted houses with hanged dolls and graffitti walls, such as the old roofing felt from the factory next to the railroads. Even the light industrial buildings that are less valuable as mesured in cultural-historical values are quite nice, so better hurry before the constructors arrive to clean up this village of ruins of Tampere.

The cahce is available 24/7, but if you want to take a look around the neigbourhood without extra excitement, I recommend visit during the daytime.
