Curie came from Poland, Warsaw actually.
She was an extremely intelligent woman - was brilliant at physics and chemistry, the field where so far only men ruled.
In 100th anniversary when she was given her second Nobel Prize, the city decided to make year 2011 a year of Marie Curie. The main aim is to remaind people that Curie was born here, because many of citizens are not aware of it.
The wall you can see is a part of celebrating ;) We can see Curie holding some chemical glasses. I would say that she looks rather warlike ;)
