Geocache Description:

Enjoy this series of geocaches hidden along the beautiful and
challenging South Taconic Crest Trail. This trail system, that is
overseen by the NY/NJ Trail Conference, will weave the hiker
between Massachusetts and New York along the Taconic Range
ridgeline. Highlights include the summits of Brace and Alander
Mountains that provide spectacular views of the entire Taconic
range as well as the Berkshires, Catskills and Adirondacks and
provide a challenge to hikers of all skill levels. Come for a day
hike or take it on end to end in an overnight adventure.

There are numerous trailheads to access the STCT depending on
the length of hike you're interested in. End to end access is via
the Northern or Southern Terminus located on Quarry Hill Rd off of
Boston Corners Rd in Millerton, NY or the Southern Terminus on
Route 23 near Catamount Ski Area in Egremont, MA. Please note there
is no overnight parking at the Southern trailhead and overnight
parking at Catamount can be granted by permission from the ski area
office. End to end is approx. 16 miles.

For a challenging 10 mile day hike there is trailhead access
and ample parking at the Bash Bish Falls State Park in Copake
Falls, NY. From here you can follow the STCT south to the end.
Primitive camping is available though at several places along the
trail in Massachusetts if plans change.

Access is also available at the base of Alander Mountain in
the Mount Washington State Forest in MA at the State Forest
Headquarters. From the base it's a 3.5 mile hike to the summit and
hikers can choose to cache north or south of here at their leisure.
All trailhead waypoins are included below.

All the cache containers placed for this cache series are
micro 35mm types. We had no room for larger containers on this trip
but plan on replacing some, in time, with larger containers. But
you'll still enjoy the hunt. Please replace caps fully and rehide
carefully! And enjoy the adventure!
