Söderskärin majakka sijaitsee luonnonsuojelualueella Porvoon
ulkosaaristossa. Saarelle järjestetään päiväristeilyitä
Helsingistä, ja pesimisajan (1.5.-31.7.) ulkopuolella paikalle voi
saapua myös omalla veneellä.
Söderskär lighthouse is situated at a nature reserve in the outer
Porvoo archipelago. You can arrive on a day cruise from Helsinki,
or with your own boat outside the bird nesting period
(May-July).

Söderskärin saaristossa on ollut luotsitoimintaa 1830-luvulta
saakka, jolloin ensimmäinen luotsitupa rakennettiin Kokkomaan
luodolle ja Mattlandetin pääsaarelle pystytettiin puinen
päivämajakka. Nykyinen majakka on arkkitehti Ernst Lohrmannin
piirustusten mukainen, ja se saatiin valmiiksi vuonna 1862. Majakka
oli alunperin rakennettu kivestä ja tiilestä, ja nykyinen betoninen
ulkoasu on kaudelta, jolloin majakkatoiminta oli venäläistetty
(1912-1917).
Majakkasaarella asui majakkamestari ja kolme majakanvartijaa
perheineen, jonka lisäksi viereisellä saarella toimi luotsitupa.
Toisen maailmansodan aikana saarella toimi ilmavalvontakeskus, jota
pyöritti pari lottaa ja parikymmentä sotilasta, ja josta muistona

aikataulunmukaisia päiväristeilyitä saarelle.

ENGLISH
Pilotage has been a part of the Söderskär islands since the 1830s,
when first pilot house was established on Kokkomaa islet and a
daymark was built on Mattlandet, the island where the current
lighthouse is. Architect Ernst Lohrmann designed the lighthouse
itself, and the construction was finished in 1862. Originally the
lighthouse was built out of stone and bricks, and the present day
concrete lining was added during the short period when the
lighthouse was operated by Russians (1912-1917).
The lighthouse master and three lighthouse guards lived with their
families on the island, and the pilot house with its pilots was on
the island next to it. During World War II, the island acted as an
air surveillance center, which was ran by a couple Lottas and
around twenty soldiers; holes for anti-aircraft guns have been
blown into the bedrock around the lighthouse. However, the
lighthouse was never attacked.
The lighthouse was automated in 1952, and it was active until 1989.
The island was long used mainly by ornithologists, until the
lighthouse was bought by an engineer and an architect in the year
2003. From 2007, the lighthouse has been open to tourists.

from Helsinki center. You can also enquire other transportation
