Kumputunturi is a 581m high fell in the municipality of Kittilä, Finnish Lapland.
Kumputunturi is a 581m high fell in the municipality of Kittilä. It is an isolated hill made of conglomerate and is one of the highest peaks in Central Lapland.
This cache is located on top of the hill. The base of the mountain is accessible by a car, but the peak can only be reached by hiking (or by snowmobile in the winter - the cache is winter-accessible). The hike is steep and rocky (particularly the eastern route), so good boots are essential. Hiking on rainy days is not recommended, as the path may be very slippery.
To reach the place drive the road between Kittilä and Sodankylä. About 30 kilometres east of Kittilä town turn to north (junction coords: N67° 36.613' E25° 28.112'). It is a dirt road but in relatively good condition. Soon afterwards there will be an Y-shaped junction, turn left for the Southwestern route, or right for the Eastern route.

Kumputunturi on 581 metriä korkea tunturi. Lähialueen selvästi korkeimpana huippuna se tarjoaa näkymät laajalle alueelle. Kumputunturi on Natura-aluetta.
Tunturin juurelle pääsee autolla varsin hyväkuntoisia hiekkateitä pitkin, mutta kätkö on huipulla, jonne pitää mennä patikoiden (tai talvella moottorikelkalla - kätkölle pääsee talvellakin). Kätevimmät reitit huipulle on lounaasta tai idästä. Varsinkin jälkimmäinen reitti on jyrkkä ja kivinen. Vaelluskengät ovat kummallakin reitillä tarpeelliset ja märällä kelillä kiipeämistä ei suositella.
Ajo ohje: Aja Kittilän ja Sodankylän välistä tietä. Noin 30 Km Kittilästä itään käänny pohjoiseen (risteyksen koordinaatit: N67° 36.613' E25° 28.112'). Pian tämän jälkeen on Y-muotoinen risteys, vasemmalle kääntyessä pääsee lounaiselle reitille ja oikealle käännyttäessä itäiselle reitille (perille löytääksesi kannattaa apuna käyttää GT- tai maastokarttaa tai navigaattoria).
