Els dos
germans s’han tingut que modernitzar, poca gent utiliza ja
la calç com a material lligant i el seu ús ha
caigut a testimonial. És per aquest motiu que s’han reciclat
i han aprés a fabricar ciment, segurament un del productes estrella
del darrer segle.
Joseph
Aspdin i James Parker van patentar el 1824 el Portland Cement,
denominat així pel seu color gris verdós fosc similar a la pedra de
Portland, Anglaterra.
El
component principal del ciment és el clinker, substància que
s’obté com a resultat de la calcinació en un forn
de dos materials.
