This is a magnetic nano cache containing only a log. Nice and easy access to the location and a small peacefull seat in a former garden wher you can enjoy a rest and take in nature.
The cache is located in Waterside and I spotted the location a while ago due to the presence of an old water pump at the side of the road. On closer inspection I found a small plaque explaining the reason for the site and also a Kilmarnock Waterworks mozaic, not to mention a small grassed area with a seat. The small plaque explains that the site was given to Waterside Recreation Trust for the enjoyment of the village. It was formerly the location of a tenament for workers at Waterside Mill which was opposite and further down the hill. The Mill is still there but is now a recent convert into a housing development. The old pump was relocated from lower down the hill and is apparently in working order and has a water connection but is not operational. Access to the seat is through a small gate next to the pump and by the telephone kiosk. Go and have a sit, it is quite pleasant on a nice day.
The cache is easily accessible but there is no off road parking so it is best visited on foot or by bicycle. You can park on the road and there are a couple of spaces in the entrance to the new development at the bottom of the hill but please have consideration for the residents and the respect the obvious pride they have in the small site and the village. ALso watch out for passing traffice even though the village has traffic calming. The road is not "busy" but you need to watch out for traffic.
