Geocache Description:

MORE BREAKING NEWS (03/26/23) - Chooch, the creator of The Depot, and his neighbor, chooch2, have been expanding the already extraordinary site. Their latest addition involved illuminating several items along the way to the geocache. Today, BluEyz, Chooch, and chooch2, marked the path from the end of Robinwood Avenue to the depot at “Martini Junction.” After dark, cachers using flashlights, can now follow the trail of orange reflectors placed at eye level on many trees to reach ground zero. To help locate the bird houses needed to obtain the numerals to open the lock, the pertinent birdhouses have been marked with red, reflective, hexagon shaped stickers. NOTE: The terrain becomes a 2.5 when done at night due to the large amount of tree roots that are difficult to see in low light situations.

In 2002, Chooch created this extraordinary geocache. In 2020, he decided to archive it after all those years because a tree had fallen and damaged the site. With encouragement and help from his neighbors and others, Chooch repaired the damage and rebuilt a section of The Depot. After the repair, BluEyz, with help from Massquerade and MadMin, brought the cache back online. Note that this area can now be viewed on Google maps and is labeled, "Martini Junction", Chooch's original name for his creation.

This is an average cache in an unusual setting. Starting about 250 ft. south of the cache, look for a trailside vignette: a door in a tree (N 42° 16.218 W 071° 14.956). The birdhouse associated with this vignette has a number on the bottom and the next two (2) birdhouses along the trail have numbers also. The four digits, in order, represent the combination for the cache locks. To open: dial the combination and depress the shackle. To lock: close the shackle and then scramble the wheels. Try your best to replace the locks so that they are right-reading for the next visitor.

A fun fact: A person who studies trains is called a ferroequinologist.

This a letterbox hybrid cache. The letterbox (Birdhouses LbNA #3384) and the geocache are both at the site but not together. If you are a letterboxer, you might want to check the letterboxing page before you set out to determine how to unlock the letterbox and stamp your logbook.
