Geocache Description:

Your mission is to locate the site of first contact between white Europeans and the local Aborigines. The cache lies a few meters off the famous Manly to Spit scenic walk way, just by the stairs that ascend into North Harbour Reserve. Watch your footing as you follow the rock face towards the magic stone gate….

The first contact in Sydney Harbour between members of the First Fleet (made up of the first convicts / settlers) and the local Aboriginals occurred around this spot on January 21st 1788. Captain Arthur Phillip and his sailors were checking this bay out when twenty aboriginal men waded out to his boat. The proud and 'manly behaviour' of these men impressed Captain Phillip so much that the area was named 'Manly'. Unfortunately these Manly people are not around today.
