Chiesa dedicata a S.Caterina a Laion/Novale
La chiesa è dedicata a S.Caterina e fu inaugurata nel 1434. Sul portale nella parte meridionale si legge l’anno 1558. La facciata occidentale rivela tracce di affreschi parzialmente consunti, per l’esattezza il Giudizio Finale e S.Cristoforo. Come nel caso di molte altre chiese nelle frazioni di Laion, anche questa ha un altare barocco. Nello stipo dell’altare vediamo Maria con il Bambino, con S.Barbara ( a sinistra ) e S.Caterina ( a destra ). Le colonnine lavorate a torciglione sono ornate con motivi della vite. Le figure al loro interno sono S.Nicolò e S.Martino. In alto si nota Dio Padre recante la sfera del mondo. Nello spazio sovrastante l’altare s’è conservata la graziosa vòlta con lesene a stella e chiavi di vòlta dipinte, mentre la navata ha il soffitto con vòlta a botte aggiunta in periodo successivo ( Incoronazione di Maria ). L’altare situato sulla destra mostra S. Antonio da Padova, mentre quello sulla sinistra Maria con il Bambino ed il patrono del vino S.Urbano, che tende a Gesù un grappolo d’uva. Il quadro dell’altare dovrebbe essere di Carl Henrici, famoso per il quadro bolzanino raffigurante il Sacro Cuore. Affianco si trovano altre due figure di santi, cioè S.Leonardo con la catena e nuovamente S.Urbano con il grappolo d’uva. In effetti qui a Novale siamo arrivati nella zona dei vigneti. Un’opera artistica di straordinaria bellezza è il capitello gotico che si trova davanti alla Scuola Elementare. Sul fusto della colonna si legge la data del 1459. Le delicate figure di santi permettono di dedurne la realizzazione ad opera di Mastro Leonardo della Scuola Brissinese. Si vedono il gruppo della Crocifissione ( a sud ), il Matrimonio di S.Caterina con Gesù Bambino ( ad est ), i santi Sebastiano, Nicolò e Floriano ( a nord ) ed una magnifica Adorazione dei Magi ( ad ovest ). Nei tasselli sopra le nicchie si possono riconoscere altre due figure di santi.

Kirche zur hl. Katharina in Lajen/Ried
Die Kirche zur hl. Katharina ist im Jahre 1434 geweiht worden. Am Portal an der Südseite erkennt man die Jahreszahl 1558. Die Westfassade zeigt etwas verwitterte Freskenreste, nämlich das Jüngste Gericht und einen Christophorus. Wie viele andere Lajener Filialkirchen hat auch St. Katharina einen Barockaltar. Im Altarschrein sehen wir Maria mit dem Kind sowie Barbara (links) und Katharina (rechts). Die gewundenen Säulchen sind mit Rebmotiven verziert. Die Figuren dazwischen sind Nikolaus und Martin. Ganz oben sieht man Gott Vater mit der Weltkugel. Im Altarraum hat sich das hübsche gotische Netzgewölbe mit einem bemalten Schluss-Stein erhalten, während das Kirchenschiff von einem später eingefügten Tonnengewölbe überragt wird (Krönung Mariens). Der rechte Seitenaltar zeigt den hl. Antonius von Padua, der linke Maria mit dem Kind mit dem Weinpatron Urban, der dem Kind eine Traube reicht. Das Altarbild soll von Carl Henrici, dem Maler des Bozner Herz - Jesu - Bildes, stammen. Daneben stehen 2 weitere Heiligengestalten, nämlich Leonhard mit der Kette und wiederum Urban mit der Weintraube. Schließlich sind wir im Lajener Ried ja bereits im Bereich der Rebe anbelangt.

Church dedicated to St. Catherine in Lajen / Ried
The church is dedicated to St. Catherine and was inaugurated in 1434. On the portal in the southern states the year 1558. The west face shows traces of frescoes partially worn for the accuracy of the Final Judgement and St. Christopher. As with many other churches in the villages of Lajen, this has a baroque altar. In the cabinet of the altar we see Mary and Child with Saint Barbara (left) and St. Catherine (right). The columns are decoratedwith twisted work of the vine motifs. The figures in them are St. Nicholas and St. Martin. Above you can see God the Father, laying the ball in the world. In the space above the altar She's kept the graceful vault with pilastersand keystones the star painted, while the nave has a barrel vault ceiling added in the following period (Coronation of Mary). The altar on the right shows St. Anthony of Padua, while the one on the left Mary with the Child and the patron saint of wine S. Urban, who tends to him a bunch of grapes. The picture of the altar shouldbe of Carl Henrici, famous for the painting of the Sacred Heart Bolzano. Beside it are two other figures of saints,St. Leonard with chain and S again with the Urban bunch of grapes. In fact we arrived here at Ried in the area ofvineyards. A work of extraordinary artistic beauty is the capital is located in front of the Gothic ElementarySchool. On the shaft of the column is dated in 1459. The delicate figures of saints allow to deduce the realizationby the School of Master Leonardo Brixen. You can see the group of the Crucifixion (south), Marriage of St. Catherine with the Child Jesus (east), the saints Sebastian, Florian and Nicholas (north) and a magnificentAdoration of the Magi (West). In the niches above the tiles can be recognized two other saints.
