Maanjäristyksen seurauksena syntyneet kalliot ja luolat sijaitsevat Joutsantien varressa, noin 17 kilometrin päässä Kangasniemen keskustasta Joutsan suuntaan. Luolien kallioperä on vanhaa peruskallioaluetta. Jääkausi muovasi kallioista luolaston, jossa läheisen kylän ihmiset asuivat piilossa viholliselta Ison Vihan aikana 1713 - 1721.
Tämän nähtävyyden virallinen ylläpito on lopetettu, eli esimerkiksi portaita ei tulla enää jatkossa kunnostamaan ja P-paikka on poistettu käytöstä. Toistaiseksi portaat ovat vielä käyttökunnossa, mutta jatkosta ei ole mitään takuita. Jokainen kävijä liikkuu omalla vastuullaan luolissa ja kallioilla. Liiku hiljaa ja luontoa kunnioittaen - älä roskaa.
Rapala erratics and caves
The cache is located near the caves and it is a 0,35l freezer box. The cache camouflage may wear off easily, so replace it if needed using suitable natural materials that can be found nearby.
The cliffs and caves have taken form during the Ice Age. An old legend tells that the inhabitants of the village nearby have been hiding the enemy in the caves during a war (1713-1721) called the Big Hate. You will reach the caves by walking about 300m along the path. Please be careful on the cliffs! Rocks and path can be very slippery after rain. The official maintenance of this spot has been discontinued: the old parking lot is no longer in use. Be aware that the condition of the stairs may decline over time since there is no maintenance! Climbing on the cliffs and caves is done strictly at your own responsibility. Move quietly, respect the nature and don’t leave trash behind.
