Idrologia delle Fonti:
Per la compartimentazione verticale, le serie carbonatiche umbro-marchi-
giane alimentano molteplici sorgenti con portate medie che solo raramente
superano 0.1 m3/s, mentre, in maggioranza misurano 1 o 2 ordini di gran-
dezza in meno. Alcune sorgenti umbre sono relativamente più ricche (Bagnara,
S. Giovenale, Capodacqua di Foligno, Alzabove, Argentina, Capodacqua di Fab-
riano, Lupa ecc.), le portate medie delle quali sono dell’ordine di qualche
centinaio di l/s. La sola sorgente importante è quella, ben nota, delle Fonti
del Clitunno. Sorgenti di acque limpidissime che sgorgano nel territorio di
Campello sul Clitunno (provincia di Perugia). Esse danno origine a un laghet-
to poco profondo, circondato da pioppi e salici, da cui ha inizio il fiume
omonimo (lunghezza 40 km) che scorre parallelo al torrente Maroggia e con-
fluisce nel torrente Timia a Bevagna.
Importanza Storica del laghetto.
All'epoca il fiume sembra fosse navigabile e che avesse dunque una
portata maggiore: il cambiamento fu dovuto secondo alcuni studiosi
settecenteschi (abate Venuti e G. Baglivi) alle conseguenze del
grande terremoto di Costantinopoli del 447, che sarebbe stato avver-
tito fino in Umbria.
Le sorgenti del fiume, già cantate nel "Child Harold's pilgrimage"
(canto IV) di George Byron, sgorgano attualmente in un piccolo lago
creato nel 1852 da Paolo Campello della Spina, che vi sistemò intor-
no un parco.
Poco dopo il parco fu reso celebre dall'ode di Giosuè Carducci "Alle
Fonti del Clitunno" (inserita nella raccolta "Odi barbare").
Dal lago le acque scorrono nella "Forma nuova", un canale artificiale
che era in origine stato costruito a servizio dei mulini. Altre sor-
genti sono a circa 1 km a valle ("Vene del Tempio"), nei pressi del
Tempietto del Clitunno.

Hydrology of Springs:
For the vertical partitioning, Umbria and Marche carbonate series

Crystal clear springs that flow into the area of Campello sul
Clitunno (province of Perugia). They give rise to a shallow pond,
surrounded by poplars and willows, which begins on the river itself (length
40 km) that runs parallel to the river and flows into the river Maroggia
Timia in Bevagna.
Historical details of the pond:
At that time the river was navigable and that he seems therefore a
