A fun curiosity that's not too hard to find.
Nestled by a quiet residential road in Santa Barbara's upper east-side is an interesting landmark, known only to locals and those like me who discovered it accidentally. The Frog Shrine has been here for years. Nobody I've asked seems to know who started it, but many have made contributions over time. This is not a traditional geocache, so PLEASE do not remove anything. However, if you have something frog-oriented you'd like to contribute, I'm sure future generations will appreciate it.

If you visit the Frog Shrine, be sure and explore some of the beautiful surrounding neighborhoods. The Frog Shrine site itself doesn't have much of a view, but many of the roads in the area offer spectacular vistas of downtown, the waterfront, and the islands. Definitely check it out while you're in the neighborhood...and bring your binoculars!

I've reclassified this as a virtual cache, since some people have gotten confused about the lack of a container and logbook.

After 3 or 4 days of torrential rain some of the froggies were looking a bit sorry for themselves. Strange but true Someone came by to introduce a friend to the shrine; and a couple drove up, deposited a frog, and drove off again...a drive by frogging, in fact. Lovely; we spent ages looking at them all. My faves were the tiny ones hiding in the cracks. Thanks so much for bringing us here..too fun.

Very neat place! We looked for Signal but didn't see him. We did see Elvis Frog and a cute hand-drawn frog picture. Looks like the local kids are signing the sidewalk in chalk... maybe we should have brought chalk to sign the sidewalk log too . Thanks for bringing us here. (#1128)

What a fun spot. Came here today with SbGal44. It was her first day caching. We both grew up here and had never heard of the Shrine. :) Thanks

I've never had time to work my way into the hills before, but today mdawaffe and I made a point to visit the Frog Shrine on a visit to Santa Barbara. We admired all the frogginess and helped someone with a birthday scavenger hunt. Thanks for pointing this out!!
