Harrington Park Riverside Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cook01821: Finally made it over to Concord to check on this one. It has been a consistently wet past few months, so it wasn't easy to get to GZ. Fortunately there was some ice that I could walk on. Verified that it is gone. I used to work in the area, so it was easy to maintain. I no longer do, so I will archive after 7 years and 89 finds logged.

Geocache Description:

Traditional cache in Harrington Park, Town of Concord Conservation Land.

I noticed this piece of conservation land while out for a lunchtime run. It looks like it gets some use, but not a whole lot. It has a designated parking area and a trail or 2 that are maintained to some degree. However, there is no informational kiosk and the trail is not easily noticed from the parking. I'd recommend checking out this document before heading to the cache.

I noticed that a sign popped up at the entrance to the parking a few days after this cache was placed. I'll summarize here: Concord Conservation land is open from sunrise to sunset. So please do not seek this cache at night.

The first time I visited the area to look for a cache location, I had a spot picked out much closer to the parking area, but on my return today, I found the trail, and it took me to a much more interesting place, where cache finders probably wouldn't have bothered to go visit with my first placement. The house to the east of the parking is the historic Wheeler-Harrington farmhouse and is on the park property, but is a private residence. Rather than start down the trail, I went straight toward the river first, then cut over toward the trail once in the woods, just to avoid going any closer to the house than necessary.

The downside to this better location is that the cache is now positioned relatively close to the Assabet River and there will be times during the year when it will become difficult to get to the cache. But under normal conditions, this looks like an interesting little area!

Please take extra care when replacing the cache, to make sure that it is securely in place and obscured from muggle viewing.

6/6/12. I replaced the cache and moved it to a new location. As much fun as the original hide was, it was destined to be a problem with maintaining it, so I also made it a more traditional hide. Therefore it really isn't terrain 3 anymore.

Congratulations to g-o-cashers on the FTF!
