Take a Hike: Nevins Bird Sanctuary Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

SuretteFam: Headed here after work and sure enough the cache was gone again. This used to be a hidden gem of a spot but it’s now overrun with loads of trash (see image), overgrowth, and sketchy encampments. Nor is it a good place to see birds anymore. Most importantly, the cache has been stolen twice in the past year. It’s time to archive it after almost 12 years.

Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of caches entitled "Take a Hike" that was placed by The Lynch Three between 2011-2012. There are no puzzles, no hard multis, or no challenging hides in this series; instead, what they share in common is a good hike in the woods, enjoyable in any season.

The Lynch Three has been retired from caching for a while now, so I adopted some of this series so that others could have the same experience of taking a great hike like I once did! (The Lynch Three, 2011): This is a shorter hike than most others in this series, but it is a chance to check out this small bird sanctuary. Their website says to access the trail from behind the police station, and that is where the trailhead and sign are, but the police forbid the use of that entrance. Instead, use the parking coords posted below and walk in on the old railroad tracks. I have posted some other coords to help guide you over to the trail and pond: turn right off of the railbed and then you'll take a left at the blue post. GZ offers you a stone bench and a nice view of the small pond and many ducks. Enjoy your hike!
