A guide around the parish of Needingworth-cum-Holywell including
some geocaches and waymarks.
Wherigo is a GPS based activity that can be played outdoors, which
was created by Groundspeak. A simple description is a mix between
an adventure game and a geocache search. People can develop
self-enclosed story files (called "cartridges") that are installed
on a GPS enabled unit along with a player program.
The player and story take advantage of the location information
provided by the GPS to trigger in-game events, such as reaching a
virtual object or interacting with characters. Completing an
adventure can require reaching different locations and solving
puzzles.
In order to play this Wherigo you will need to download the
cartridge from
Here into a suitable GPS enabled device. These include PDAs,
various GPSr’s and some smart phones. It has been tested
successfully on my PDA (HP iPAQ). Please do not look at this in the
‘emulator’ as that will detract from your experience on
the day of your visit.
Caches along the route of the wherigo:
GC1V5EY Needingworth Lockup
GC1RZEE Walk around Millfields
GC1T2VE Good For what Ales you #3 Holywell
GC2M7ZP One Foot in the Grave #6
GC2M835 One Foot in the Grave Mystery (You will need to have
done One Foot in the Grave #1 to #5 before starting the cartridge
if you wish to do this one).
Start at the Village Lockup, at the given co-ordinates. It is about
a 2 mile walk, you need to allow a couple of hours, especially if
you are going to do some of the caches. Dont't forget to save your
cartridge regularly.
