CLEARS (St.), or St. Clare, a small town, a parish, and a sub-district in the district and county of Carmarthen. The town stands on the river Taf and on the South Wales railway, 8¼ miles WSW of Carmarthen;
This Geocache takes you to the centre of the small town of St Clears. To a sculpture of the Rebecca Riots, a group of welsh farmers dressed in women’s clothes calling themselves ‘Rebecca and her daughters’. They were protesting the high toll gate prices between 1839 and 1844 in the areas around South Wales.
The floodlit sculpture stands in St Clears within eye sight of the original toll gate. The three figures have been calved out of a 120 year old cedar trunk. The broken traditionally hand made ash gate holds back Rebecca and her daughter in the frame of two large oak posts
The cache is small but should be easily found. Beware its a busy site and there will be plenty of people walking around. There are plenty of seats, sit down for a bit.
