Geocache Description:

Don't worry I'm not planning on getting you anywhere near any ticks on this Park and Grab micro. There's a Park and near by shopping.

Ticks! I have cached several of these little guys since starting in March of 2011! I did some research after a local celebrity cacher contacted Lyme's Disease. Seeing the need, I made myself an doctors appointment and placed this cache.

Since 1991, the number of cases of Lyme disease has doubled, corresponding around the birth of Geocaching! The CDC estimates that there are nearly 325,000 cases every year. These numbers are staggering and make Lyme disease an epidemic larger than AIDS. ! large percentage of those infected are not aware.

Known for the incapacitation of its host, affecting every tissue and organ system in the body. It causes a wide range of energy-stealing ailments from chronic fatigue and joint pain, to immune dysfunction and neurological conditions, and even death.

Lyme disease is a seriously complex multi-system inflammatory disease that is triggered by the bacterial lipoproteins produced by spiral-shaped bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi. It's transmission occurs primarily through the bite of ticks. Fewer than 50% of patients with Lyme disease recall a tick bite. In some studies this number is as low as 15%. It can appear as a chronic arthalgia (joint pain), fibromyalgia (fibrous connective tissue and muscle pain), chronic fatigue, brain fog, immune dysfunction, and neurological disease.

Standard medical treatment usually involves antibiotics. In some patients, Lyme disease can be fairly easy to treat, while in others, it can feel like a never-ending battle. Antibiotics are most effective during bacterial replication, so the more cycles during a treatment, the better. Since the life cycle of Streptococcus pyogenes (the bacterium that causes strep throat) is about eight hours, antibiotic treatment for a standard ten days would cover thirty life cycles. To treat Lyme disease for a comparable number of life cycles, treatment would need to last thirty weeks.

In addition, there are frequently co-infections—other tick-transmitted diseases—that come along for the ride, most often Babesia, Anaplasma, Ehrlichia and Bartonella. If left untreated, their continued presence increases the length of the illness and prevents successful treatment of Lyme disease.

Frequently misdiagnose it as multiple sclerosis, lupus, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, rheumatoid arthritis, motor neuron disease (ALS, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis—Lou Gherig’s disease), Multiple Chemical Sensitivity Syndrome (MCS), or numerous other psychiatric disorders such as depression and anxiety.

This is a Muggled Area, the need for stealth can not be suggested enough.
The Hint is a spoiler, so don't use it, unless desperate.
