This is a multi-leg virtual cache. The cache consists of 4 stages.
At each stage you will need to find the answers to the questions to
determine the location of the next stage. At the final stage you
will need to email me with the answer to the final question to log
this cache. All the stages are within a couple miles of each other.
I recommend bringing along a compass, calculator and water
(especially in summer). Oh yeah, bringing along a math major
wouldn't hurt either!
Modoc War
a.k.a. Klamath Basin History Lession #1
A long time ago two cultures clashed over ownership of this
land. Today people are still battling over water rights. In
this cache you will learn some history of the area
and hopefully come away wiser.
Coordinates listed are GENERAL locations, you will need
to do some wandering around to find the answers
Starting Point:
At the coordinates listed for this cache, answer the following
questions and use the formulas to determine where to go next.
- A = The number of Modoc Indians that took part in this
event.
- B = The number of people that were killed here.
- CC = The number of letters and numbers that are written on the
namesake of this site.
- DD = The year this event took place without the first two
digits (i.e. 1776 = 76)
- E = The number of handguns shown on the plaque
- NOTE:They seem to have changed the plaque since I was
last here, so the answer for E is 2.
- FFF = The compass bearing of the namesake of this location,
measured from the base of the plaque. Round to the nearest 10
degrees
- GG = The month this event took place
Formulas:
- HH = DD - 24
- II = (A x B x E)-2
- JJJ = CC x 10.125 + 1
- KKK = (FFF rotated 1 digit right[see example] + GG) / 1000
|
Examples of rotation: 123 -> 312
567 -> 756
102 -> 210

Coordinates to next stage: N41° HH.JJJ W121°

this site and when the lake was first drained
- F = The number on the trail marker that indicates Captain
