This cache is one of five at National Trust sites around South Bedfordshire (A further 10 caches are located at Dunstable and Whipsnade Downs).
The steep slopes and Beech woods have been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest. The Clappers Wood was planted between 1830 and 1840 on the site of an Iron Age Hill Fort which is designated as a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Hazel woods on surrounding hillsides have previously been coppiced, a form of woodland management where trees are periodically cut at ground level to stimulate growth and to allow a crop of wood to be taken.
