To the eastern part of Croatia, north of Osijek, close to the Hungarian and Serbian borders, between the villages of Topolje and Draz.
The Short History of the Church of Saint Peter and Paul
I passed this place several times, before curiosity made me stop. Why is this large, unique building here in the middle of nowhere? Why doesn't it have a tower?
I learned that the church was built to commemorate the victory of the Austrian-Hungarian-Bavarian-Croatian army against the Ottomans in the battle of Nagyharsány (August 12, 1687). According to the tradition, the troops led by Prince Eugene of Savoy forced part of the Ottoman troops into the Danube right here, behind the current church.
The church was built by Eugene of Savoy who received large land donation in the area. It was consecrated 35 years after the battle, in 1722.
It doesn't have a tower, because it stands on a bit higher land than its surroundings, near water, and somehow this causes the place to attract electricity. Any time a tower was erected, it soon got damaged by lightning. Finally people gave up, and the church became towerless.

A Szent Péter és Pál templom rövid története
Többször hajtottam erre megállás nélkül, mire vettem a fáradságot, hogy körülnézzek.
Hogy kerül ide ez a nagyméretü, különleges épület a semmi közepére? Miért nincs tornya?
Mint megtudtam, a templomot a nagyharsányi csata (1687. augusztus 12.) emlékére emelték. A hagyomány szerint Savoyai Jenö herceg vezette csapatok itt szorították a törökök egy részét a templom mögötti Duna-ágba.
A templomot a közelben földbirtokossá vált Savoyai építtette. 35 évvel az ütközet után, 1722-ben szentelték fel.
Tornya azért nincs,mert ez a környezeténél egy picit magasabban fekvö, vízközeli földnyelv valahogy vonzza az elektromosságot és eddig akárhányszor tornyot emeltek, az nem soká állt, egy kósza villám elöbb-utóbb eltalálta. Végül belefáradtak és az épület torony nélkül maradt.
