At the given coordinates (Stage 1) is located the oldest menhir yet found in Europe. Through carbon dating of vegetative material obtained from beneath the rock it has been aged at about 6000 years BCE, i.e. about 8000 years old. Menhirs are generally phallic in design but may also incorporate symbols of female genitalia together with a number of fairly simple artistic designs carved into the stonework. However, since Neolithic man became sedentary fertility of the soil was also vital to his existence. So menhirs were also worshipped as symbols of soil fertility. At this site obtain the last 5 digits (minutes) of the northing and westing coordinates of Stage 2.
Local folk lore has it that the feature at Stage 2 is very old indeed. It is logical that, if man inhabited the locality in ancient times, a good water source would have been a necessity. At this site obtain the last 5 digits (minutes) of the northing and westing coordinates of the final cache. The final cache is located in a much more recent structure but is nevertheless of some age. It follows common practice for cache placement.
