A nice hike down the snowmobile trail, then a bit of a bushwack to the cache...

There are ten towns and/or incorporated villages within Hamilton County, NY and it just so happens that there are ten numerical digits that can be used for a puzzle cache so guess what we did? We made a puzzle cache!! The following list should be used to determine the actual coordinates for this cache:

North Coordinates:
Town of Hope
Village of Speculator
Town of Inlet
Town of Indian Lake
Town of Benson
Town of Wells
Town of Long Lake

West Coordinates:
Town of Morehouse
Town of Long Lake
Town of Hope
Town of Arietta
Town of Wells
Town of Indian Lake
Town of Wells
Town of Lake Pleasant

We could direct you to the census data via a web link but to make things easier for you we decided to provide the following information from the Hamilton County website (http://www.hamiltoncounty.com/government) to help you solve this puzzle:

POPULATION 2000 CENSUS
HAMILTON COUNTY – 5,379

Town of Arietta – 293
Town of Benson – 201
Town of Hope – 392
Town of Indian Lake – 1471
Town of Inlet – 406
Town of Lake Pleasant – 876*
Town of Long Lake – 852
Town of Morehouse – 151
Town of Wells – 737
Incorporated Village of Speculator – 348
*Indicates Village of Speculator

The population figures above should be used in their raw form (i.e. do not worry about changing any of the above numbers to take the asterisk into account). Using the above numbers you should rank the municipalities by population (the lowest population should start with a zero) and then plug those ranking numbers into the lists under the coordinate headings above.

This should be a pretty straight forward puzzle but you can check your answers here:

When we placed this cache we flushed out a couple of deer and saw tons of signs, like tracks, trails, antler rubs on trees, and deer poop (or raisinets as the kids call it), that indicate deer are plentiful in the area. So there is a very good chance you will either see some deer, or at least see signs that they are nearby. Have fun and enjoy the trails!!
