A pretty cache over looking the river. Easy parking nearby and could be a nice picnic spot, or perhaps fishing. Bring you own pencil and please replace EXACTLY as found....thanks.
French Village, also known as Intervale, was named after the French family that settled here in 1798. James French and his son Burleigh operated a saw and gristmill at the upper end of what is now Intervale Road, followed by several other mills built over the next 60 years harnessing the waterpower of the Souhegan River via several dams and canals parts of which are still visible today. Joseph Killam's mill, near the center of the road made furniture, later at the same site Flint and Gray manufactured the Wilton Wagon. At the end Davis Manufacturing made carpet and filling in a mill build c. 1863 which was destroyed by the 1869 flood. After this flood another canal was build to a mill near the present recycling center where H.W. Hopkins and F. B. French made desks and fancy boxes.
