Geocache Description:

Cache is hidden near a road. At times there may be muggles present. The hide should be easy enough. Difficulty is more for the puzzles involved. Inside the cache is a puzzle that will need to be solved in order to log the find and get the coordinates to Cache Fu 2.

EyeD10T Jones had finally returned home after a long day of retrieving and archiving one of his favorite hides. The name of the cache was "Don't Know if you are Coming or Going", GC2RP39. The cache was a multi-cache that had 2 different starting points and 2 final caches. The final caches were chained together and each had a lock. The locks were more for the fun of the multi-cache than they were to keep people out and it wasn't long before someone decided to remove the lock from one of the containers and then stack them both up by the main trail.

EyeD10T did the obligatory maintenance run and all was well, until about a week later he got an email that the caches had a lock removed and both caches were stacked by the trail. He knew that it was time to remove them and he did. Now he was back home and it was time to relax.

He sat down on the back porch and popped open a sarsaparilla. He closed his eyes for a moment, hoping to catch a moment of Zen and help him relax. The sarsaparilla was really tasting good and was so refreshing. There was a slight breeze blowing, enough to put a bit of a chill in the air. EyeD10T didn't care...he wanted to know who muggled the cache and why!

All of the sudden he heard a noise coming from the forest behind his house. It was a rustling of sorts, but it also sounded as if there was some sort of a whisper coming from the same direction. He pulled out his handy-dandy magnifying glass from his cache pack and held it up to his eye. He could see the rustling of the bushes and then all of the noise stopped. EyeD10T froze.

For what seemed to be several hours, he sat there...waiting for something to happen. The breeze had stopped and there were no noises to be heard. EyeD10T looked around. It was still daylight, so he could not have been out there too long. He noticed that there was no movement at all. The trees were still. There were no neighbors walking by nor cars on the road on the side of the house. The clouds were not even moving. Nothing but dead, still, silence.

He heard the rustling coming from the bushes again and looked. A man had just stepped out of the bushes. He was wearing a black coat and sandals. The man was an older man, with a bald head and a strange green tint to his skin.

The man approached EyeD10T and as he got closer, EyeD10T asked, "Who are you?" "I am Master Gnal. I am Shaolin monk and have been sent here to help you in your time of need.", replied the old man.

"Really, I am fine," said EyeD10T. "All I needed was a short doze and a sarsaparilla to set things right".

"Ah, but that is what you think. What you think does not also mean it to be true," advised Master Gnal, "Come, sit with me on the porch steps and I will teach you."

EyeD10T sat down on the steps next to Master Gnal. He looked the monk over and could swear that he had seen this person before. He just couldn't figure out where. Maybe a Geocaching event?

Master Gnal started, "If a man dwells on the past, then he robs the present; but if a man ignores the past, he may rob the future. The seeds of our destiny are nurtured by the roots of our past."

EyeD10T just stared. He wasn't really sure he knew what the heck the monk had just said, but he was afraid to say anything. Master Gnal stared back. EyeD10T could swear that there was a split second where the monk had thrashed he tongue out at a fly, but he decided that he was just tired of staring and his eyes were playing tricks on him.

Master Gnal licked his lips and then said, "Accept the ways of others. Respect first your own."

EyeD10T was starting to wonder about this old man. Could be that he had lost his marbles during one of his journeys from here to there.

"Master, what is it you are trying to say? How can this be helpful to me?"
"Close your eyes. What do you hear?"
"I hear the water, I hear the birds, and I hear the notification signal from my GPSr".
"Do you hear a nearby Muggle?"
"No."
"Do you hear the Grasshopper at your feet?"
"No"
"Now open your eyes and tell me, what do you see?"
"I see the grasshopper that you mentioned. I see you, of course. I see the sky, the trees, and the ground."
"Do you see the cache that is hidden only 20' away?"

EyeD10T looked around. It only a few seconds, but then he saw an ammo can cache hidden about 20 feet away. He looked at the monk and said, "Old man, how is it that you hear and see these things?"

"Young man, how is it that you do not?" The monk closed his eyes and began a chant. After 15 minutes, he opened his eyes and told EyeD10T, "I have been chosen to teach you the art of Cache Fu".

"What is cache fu?", asked EyeD10T?
"How do you know Cache fu is a what and not a who"? replied the monk.
"Master, how am I to learn when you answer a question with a question?"
"Focus on me, young Cachehopper. For it is through keen observation and investigation that one can find the destination in which they seek."

"We have many days ahead of us for training, but you are ready for your first test. You are to hide a geocache somewhere near your series of caches that you hid near Hollis, NH. Before hiding the Geocache, you are to build a puzzle that will need to be solved in order to sign the logbook and then to get information to find another Geocache, which you will also hide. After you hide your containers come back home. I will return in a few days to continue our lessons. Good Luck, Cachehopper".

With that, the monk turned and walked back into the forest. EyeD10T stood up and started for his chair and the rest of his sarsaparilla. He took three steps and started to feel Dizzy. It took a moment and the dizziness left him. He sat in the chair and started to plan his caches. It was an unseasonably nice day and he knew that it would be a good time to hid his caches.

To Be Continued...

Congratulations to Team TBS! (Teslacoil#1 and Son, Bill the Cat 89, and Snewt lindell)
for being the FTF(s).

Note: The coordinates for this cache are hidden somewhere on this page. The location for the cache was chosen so you can take the puzzle back to your car to work on it if you would like. You should also be able to sit at GZ or take a short walk up the trail to a really nice waterfall area. Follow the water to get to a historic marker (less than 100' away).

The physical puzzle that is in the cache is different than the original puzzle. The original didnt hold up to the elements.

Please let me know if you have any questions or could use a hint to solve the puzzle (both on this page and the physical puzzle in the cache). Please take care to not damage or loose the puzzle, and secure it before returning it to the cache. The cache is probably not accessible if there is too much snow on the ground.
