On the 22nd of September in 1944 the headquarters of the german groundforces has gave an order to start build up line-Margit. General Rudolf Konrad the former commander of the mountain troops was assigned to command the line.In building process hungarian and german troops took part and large number of civilian from the vicinity of the line.
This way has germans done their most powerfull hungarian defence line. From Budapest to Barcs it had 2 defence belt with 1-3 occupation by each belt, in 16-20 km tactical deepness. The main objective of the line was to make an obstacel for soviet troops has come across river Duna on the way to Austria (at that time south-eastern part of Germany) and to defend the most significant and the most valuable territory Zala with its oil fields. Until its break-trough ( 29th of March 1945. ) it had important role during attempt to disengage surrounded troops in Buda. Finally all 3 attemp failed and the line was theater of war the famous tank battle named after Székesfehérvár.
Thanks to line-Margit the real front line was satbilized approximately for 4 months except minimal number of mooving troops. As a result line-Margit became one of the most important and the most bloodiest place of the hungarian combats during world war 2.
